What Season Are You In? A Reflection from Laura
Estimated Reading Time: 5-7 minutes & optional 10 minutes+ for reflection questions. Enjoy!
After over 15 years in both traditional health care and holistic healing, I’ve come to understand something simple but profound:
We are nature in Human form.
Not separate from it. Not in control of it. But moving through the same cycles, rhythms, and seasons, inward and outward, every single day.
Just like nature, our inner world shifts.
There are the quiet winters where stillness and reflection feel like medicine.
The fiery summers where creativity overflows and everything’s in full bloom.
The autumns that ask us to let go… of habits, expectations, or identities that no longer serve.
And the springs that stir new beginnings and call us forward.
Lately, I’ve been living in what feels like a very “late summer” season inside. Despite it still being summer outside, I found myself last week curled up with a tea (okay, three teas), laptop in my lap, and that telltale inner buzz of creativity mixed with low-key burnout.
Maybe you’ve felt that too?
I’ve been asking myself:
Will life support this vision I hold?
Or will something unexpected pull the rug out from underneath me just before it blossoms?
That’s the thing with late summer. When it stretches too long, it tips into worry. And right on time, autumn starts whispering… it’s time to slow down, release, and let the leaves drop.
The Emotions of the Seasons
One of the tools I lean into as a practitioner is 5 Element Theory from Chinese Medicine. I’m no expert in this specifically, but I love how it helps us to map our emotional landscape.
Each season brings its own emotional flavour:
Winter invites rest — and brings with it fear or stillness.
Spring fuels growth — but often stirs anger as we push through what’s been stuck.
Summer holds joy — and the invitation to fully receive.
Late summer brews worry — especially when we’re overflowing or on the brink of burnout.
Autumn brings grief — the kind that comes with letting go and saying goodbye.
None of these emotions mean something’s wrong with us, they’re simply signs of where we are in our inner season and they help us to move forward in beautiful ways when we know how to listen to the voice of our body.
Here’s something I’ve learned personally: Awareness isn’t always enough.
What shifts things is acceptance and love for all parts of ourself. The kind that says, “It’s okay to feel this way. I don’t have to fight with this part of myself today. I love you and see your perspective. I want to make a mens.” And with that comes beautiful learning that it’s safe to feel even the most uncomfortable of feelings so we can allow them to release and move through our system and move ourselves forward in a deep embodied way.
Slowing Down to Realign
In my paramedic days, I was taught to react fast.
In my healing work now, I’ve learned to respond slow.
Especially when it comes to myself. There is time for both and learning how to find balance between the two are key.
Whether it’s grief, joy, fear, or worry. When we honour the season we’re in, we stop making ourselves wrong for feeling human.
Instead of pushing through winter, we allow the body to rest.
Instead of resisting grief in autumn, we learn to exhale and let go.
Instead of fearing the loss of joy in summer, we savour the beauty while it’s here.
These seasons might last hours, days, months, or even years if we have attachments, beliefs or stories that keep us holding on. “This too shall pass” a comforting saying I love.
Reflection for You
I’d love to invite you into a little bit of personal reflection now if you’d like to grab your pen, journal, take a nice big breath and tune inward:
What internal season(s) are you experiencing right now?
What wisdom do you feel your inner world is trying to teach you?
If you allowed yourself too listen, how do you see you would move through your days differently? What would it look like?
What do you see happening if you gave yourself full permission to honour and allow these changes? What would you love to have happen?
From My Heart to Yours
Right now, I’m feeling this blend between a few. I definitely have had anger rising that is fuelling me, and almost pushing me forward as I make some big life changes and move to South America. The fear and worry underneath it guiding me to let go of the stories I’ve outgrown, softening the perfectionism that still sometimes sneaks in and having greater faith that I’m always divinely held, safe and secure. I’m clearing space to nourish myself more deeply mind, body, spirit. Sometimes it’s messy and that’s okay.
It’s vulnerable. Tender.
And also liberating to feel it all.
Like a tree about to shed its leaves, I’m reminded:
We don’t have to feel embarrassed standing naked in a forest of people either. When we are surrounded by the right community, all is welcome and we all shed leaves at different times, our branches look different, and even have different functions… despite it all, we move together. And the nakedness simply means we’re in the process of becoming something new.
If you’re someone like me who prefers inner exploration over surface-level fixes…
If you’d rather light a candle and journey inward than numb out with a scroll…
Then you’d feel right at home in our Moon Ceremonies.
They’re less about the moon, and more about you — your inner landscape, your inner season, your inner healing.
If you haven’t already joined us for one, you’re welcome to join us online or in Peterborough. We’ll guide you through an enlightening emotional clearing journey where you’ll feel the patterns holding you back so you can release them and step into the new with greater ease and grace. You can join us here if you feel the call.
I’ll also tease a little something else too as we have something new blossoming, too. In January, we’re launching what we’re calling “The Soul Alignment Circle” — a weekly online community for moon gatherings, embodiment practices, and inside-out transformation that we’ll be sharing more about soon…
Until then, remember: Seasons change. You’re not behind. And you being divinely guided in this lifetime. Keep trusting the unfolding. You’ve got this and God/Spirit/The Universe has got you.
With so much love and warm hugs,
Laura
